Myth No 1.
Film is Expensive:
We always look at the running costs of Film cameras, and feel film
is expensive, which is extremely debatable.
Lets assume you purchase a Brand New Digital SLR, it would cost you
approximately 30000 Rs. You would be in a illusion that the cost is
complete, though it is not. You will have to purchase accessories and other
items to keep you abreast, You cost will pump up. And in the end of the
day, you might end up doing your shoots on weekends, which would be roughly
300 to 400 pictures a month maximum. After a year the same camera would
cost half of what you had paid for and its value would have tanked out.
So in 2 years time, Your Digital SLR camera would be worth nearly
10000 Rs. So overall a loss of Rs 20000.
Now lets do the same with film, You buy a cheap used Film SLR
Camera, and it would cost you approximately 4000 to 5000, which would be in
budget range. You will do 5 films a month, and 60 films in a years. Cost of
Film is Rs 200 each. Cost would be maximum 12000 per annum and cost of
developing would cost you approximately 6000 maximum.
The Cost of camera 5000 and other costs will be 18000. Bringing it
to 23000. Per annum.
But the cost of camera will not go down, it will bring nearly the
same amount of money you invested in it, may be even more.
Fact:
Film or Analog Photography is a great and stringent Teacher, it
teaches you the basics of photography, it gives you a feeling of
anticipation when you give the film for development, it also brings you to
be very frugal in your shots, As there are no limits in Digital photography
and you can always shoot as long as your card can carry it, And you will
end up looking at the LCD of your camera and learn photography the wrong
way.
Film challenges you, Limited ISO capabilities, Limited Shots in a
Roll of film and you end up trying to get the best in this situation.
Magic came into existence when Photons (Light) were converted into
Graphy (picture), and hence we got photography.
Starting from a humble pinhole camera to cameras in our
iphones, it has taken a huge leap
due to evolving technology.
However, our fascination for Film still remains, the way it works,
the result we get.
The film cameras of a
bygone era are engineering marvels to be experienced. Every camera was made
with precision and expertise, hence servicing these beauties requires
someone with ample depth and experience. Contact
